Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes

Making ground turkey sloppy joes is easy and fun! This simple recipe for homemade sloppy joes will put smiles on all the faces around your dinner table tonight.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb. lean ground turkey
  • ½ large yellow onion, diced
  • ½ tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 small green pepper, diced
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard
  • ½ cup sugar free BBQ sauce
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 6 light buns

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over MED-HIGH heat. Add turkey, onion, garlic and bell pepper and cook. Break the turkey apart as it cooks. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes, or until turkey is cooked through and vegetables are beginning to soften. Transfer to colander to drain.
  2. Mix in chili powder, salt, pepper, sugar and ground mustard.
  3. Mix in the barbecue sauce, tomato paste, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and water. Stir well to combine.
  4. Simmer on low for 10-12 minutes, or until mixture has thickened, stirring often. Remove from heat and serve on buns.
